越冬白鹤在江西鄱阳湖南矶国际重要湿地的数量动态与空间分布

Quantitative dynamic and spatial distribution of overwintering Siberian cranes in Jiangxi Poyang Lake Nanji Wetlands

      目的  2020年起鄱阳湖实施10年全面退捕禁捕,南矶湿地保护区“堑秋湖”渔业生产也宣告暂停,保护区内的自然资源保护与利用状况正在发生深刻变化;2022年鄱阳湖持续受极端干旱气象的影响,保护区内沉水植被无法生长发育,苦草(Vallisneria spp.)冬芽等沉水植物食物匮乏,导致越冬候鸟栖息食物短缺,影响越冬白鹤(Grus leucogeranus)等珍稀物种的觅食和分布。因此,有必要及时调查掌握越冬白鹤在江西鄱阳湖南矶国际重要湿地的数量动态与空间分布状况,为保护区的保护与管理提供科学依据。
      方法  在此背景下,本研究选择了江西鄱阳湖南矶湿地国家级自然保护区(国际重要湿地)及周边区域为监测范围,以白鹤为监测对象,对2022—2023年越冬期(10月至翌年4月)白鹤的数量动态和空间分布进行了分析。
      结果  结果表明,在越冬期内白鹤数量呈现明显的波动,其中,2023年3月7日共记录到白鹤524只,为此次越冬期最高纪录。白鹤于11月上旬飞抵南矶湿地保护区,于4月底5月初飞离保护区,越冬白鹤在保护区停留时间比往年越冬期有所延长。从空间上看,白鹤仍集中分布在保护区内,占93.55%,保护区周边恒湖和朱港农田也存在少量白鹤分布;从时间上看,越冬白鹤主要集中在2023年1月中旬至3月下旬间。
      结论  越冬白鹤在江西鄱阳湖南矶国际重要湿地存在明显的数量动态与时空分布,受食物资源的影响有向周边扩散趋势。本研究最后对如何加强保护区白鹤等越冬候鸟重要栖息地的管理提出了保育对策。

     

    Abstract:
      Objectives  The fishing moratorium policy in Poyang Lake has been in effect for a decade since 2020. Consequently, fishery in the “Plate-shaped Lake enclosed in Autumn” area within the Poyang Lake Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve had also been suspended, experiencing significant shifts in the protection and utilization of natural resources. In 2022, Poyang Lake continued to grapple with the effects of extreme meteorological drought, resulting in the drying of plate-shaped lakes and backwater areas. Submerged plants, such as Vallisneria spp. were unable to grow and develop, leading to their demise within Poyang Lake. This phenomenon created a dire scarcity of food for wintering migratory birds, including submerged plants and snails. It will affect the foraging and distribution of rare species such as overwintering Siberian crane. To research and understand the temporal variation of Siberian cranes number and spatial distribution in Jiangxi Poyang Lake Nanji international important Wetland, and provide a scientific basis for the protection and management in the natural reserve.
      Methods  In this study, we focused our monitoring efforts on the Jiangxi Poyang Lake Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve and its surrounding areas. Specifically, we analyzed the migration dynamics and spatial distribution of Siberian cranes (Grus leucogeranus) during the winter of 2022−2023 (October to April).
      Results  Our results revealed significant temporal fluctuations in the numbers of Siberian cranes. Notably, the duration of their habitation at the Poyang Lake Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve during this wintering period exceeded that of previous years. On March 7, 2023, the highest count of Siberian cranes for the winter of 2022−2023 was recorded, totaling 524 individuals. These cranes arrived at the Poyang Lake Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve in early November 2022 and began their northward migration in late April and early May 2023. From a spatial perspective, Siberian cranes predominantly inhabited the Poyang Lake Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve, constituting 93.55% of the observed population. A smaller number of Siberian cranes were found in the paddy fields of Henghu and Zhugang around the Poyang Lake Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve. Based on the timeline, the main habitation period for Siberian cranes was between mid-January and the last ten days of March 2023.
      Conclusions  It showed significant temporal fluctuations and spatiotemporal distribution in the numbers of Siberian cranes in Jiangxi Poyang Lake Nanji Wetlands of international importance. Influenced by food resources, they tended to spread to the surrounding areas. Finally, the author proposed several conservation strategies to enhance the management of vital habitats for overwintering migratory birds.
